Aalto University
The new university, which will be created through a merger of the Helsinki School of Economics, the University of Art and Design Helsinki, and the Helsinki University of Technology, has been given the name Aalto University on 29 May 2008.
Aalto University's special national mission will be to employ research and education to support the success of Finland in the international economy. At the same time, the university will make a positive contribution to Finnish society, its technology, economy, culture and international appeal.
The Charter of Foundation for the Aalto University was signed in June 2008. Read more
The goal for the new university is to be one of the leading institutions in the world in terms of research and education in its own specialised disciplines by 2020. The Aalto University starts operating on 1 August 2009.
