Participants

The Innovation University Project will proceed along the lines as proposed by a committee. A steering group for the innovation university project, a preparation committee and theme groups have already been appointed. The Ministry of Education is preparing an overhaul of the university legislation and the system of university funding and steering. As recorded in the Government Programme, the legal status of universities will be changed in order to increase their financial and administrative autonomy. The committee preparing the overall reform of the university system is chaired by Director Anita Lehikoinen, with State Secretary Heljä Misukka as vice chair.

Steering group of the innovation university project

The preparation and execution of the innovation university project is led by a steering group, which is chaired by State Secretary Heljä Misukka. The other members are Rector Matti Pursula, TKK; Rector Eero Kasanen, HSE; Rector Yrjö Sotamaa, TaiK; Jukka Mäkelä, MP; Director Anita Lehikoinen, Ministry of Education; Budget Director Hannu Mäkinen, Ministry of Finance; Deputy Director General Paula Nybergh, Ministry of Employment and the Economy; Jenni Laakso, Chair, Board of HSE student union; Kerttu Pellinen, Chair, Association of Finnish University and Research Establishment Staff; Executive Director Jorma Virkkala, Finnish Union of University Professors; Managing Director Irina Krohn, Finnish Film Foundation; Professor Yrjö Neuvo, HSE; and Chancellor Matti Lehti, HSE. Matters handled by the steering group are prepared by Project Director Jari Jokinen (Ministry of Education).

The preparation committee

The preparation committee will prepare and submit a proposal for the implementation of the innovation university project to and otherwise assists the steering group. It is chaired by Director Anita Lehikoinen from the Ministry of Education. The other members are Project Director Jari Jokinen, Counsellor for Education Jorma Karhu, Counsellor for Education Ari Saarinen, and Director Hannu Sirén from the Ministry of Education, and the officials directing the project in each constituent university: Vice Rector Olli Ahtola (HSE), Professor Mauri Airila (TKK) and Director of Administration Pekka Saarela (TaiK).

Theme groups

Tripartite theme groups have been appointed to handle specific theme areas. These groups link the academic communities of the constituent universities to preparations. They generate ideas and visions for the new interfaces in research, education, the third mission, and support services.
