Helsinki School of Economics (HSE)

Established in 1911, the Helsinki School of Economics (HSE) is the largest and leading business school in Finland. It provides the most diverse environment for world-class study and research in business subjects and an innovative community of approximately 4,000 students (4,500) and around 500 researchers, teachers and service staff (400). In 2007, the HSE awarded 31 Doctorates (20) and 391 MSc degrees (346). There were nearly 3,000 people (2,500) studying on the HSE’s Open University courses. The annual budget of the HSE last year was EUR 39.3 million (EUR 38.6 million), of which 64% (63%) was from the state budget and 36% (37%) from external funding.

University of Art and Design Helsinki (TaiK)

The University of Art and Design Helsinki is an international university specialising in design, audiovisual communication, art education and art. Established in 1871, it is the largest art and design university in the Nordic countries and one of the most prestigious in the world. The university has six schools with 2,000 students (1,900). In 2007, the university awarded 311 Master's degrees (235) and 8 Doctorates (10). The share of foreign students at the University of Art and Design Helsinki is 16% (18.5%). The annual budget of the university last year was EUR 35 million (EUR 35 million), of which EUR 7 million (EUR 7 million) was external funding. The university has a staff of 450.

Helsinki University of Technology (TKK)

The Helsinki University of Technology (TKK) is the leading university of technology in Finland. The university has 4 faculties with over 15,000 students, including doctoral students, studying to become engineers, architects and landscape architects. In 2007, the university awarded 1,034 Master's degrees (1,012) and 162 Doctorates (158). Graduates from TKK account for about 42% of all technology graduates in Finland, and 60% of Doctors in technology. TKK had over 1,100 foreign students in 2006, of whom 71 graduated with a Master's degree and 29 with a Doctorate. The annual budget of the university in 2005 was €225.3 million, of which 57% was from the state budget and 43% from supplementary external funding. The university has 3,300 staff, of whom 250 are professors. TKK celebrates its centenary in 2008.
